Edward Jerome Smith

November 9, 1933 — December 23, 2021

Smith; Edward Jerome
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and totally unexpected death of EDWARD JEROME SMITH in his 89th year. Much loved husband and very best friend of Ella Smith for more than 68 years (and they said it would never last!) Proud father of Brenda Joanne Smallwood (Ted Smallwood) and Bev Edward Smith (Melissa Hawkins). Much loved Boppy/Grandpa of prized grandchildren Jennifer Smallwood, Gregory Smallwood (Shweta Smallwood), Sheldon Smith (Kaitlan Macinnis), Jesse Smith and Jackson Hawkins. He cherished his five great grandchildren Gwendellyn Smith, Yvette Smith, Camden Dixon, Tyler Dixon and baby Ava - Avanshi Ella Smallwood.
In earlier years Ed was an avid fisherman, both winter and summer, swimmer, small boater, camper, collector of antique cars and owner of our Rabbitry -a great learning experience for all. Later he spent many summers boating on Georgian Bay and travelling Canada and various parts of the world. After retirement he had more time for his other passions - gardening, woodworking, and playing cards. He even took up shuffleboard as a new pastime. He enjoyed the game and the socializing for many years. For years he always started his days with a morning coffee group at Timmy’s until COVID 19 changed all of that. He thoroughly enjoyed his many winters in Florida. He was a man of many talents: he could repair any vehicle, he built our first home, and always had time for a chat. Ed was a long-time employee of LCBO in Orillia.
The family wish to thank Gerry and Barry for their many acts of kindness over the years. A very special thank you to Dr Julie Gallagher, not only for her skill and care for many, many years but also for the special attention she has always given both Ed and Ella.
At Ed’s request there will be no Service or Celebration of Life. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice and will be appreciated by the family.   Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
