It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Nancy Brown, who left us peacefully in Toronto on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, at the age of 68. A beloved resident of Orillia, Gail was the cherished wife of the late William "Bill" Phelps Brown, and devoted and loving mother of William "Billy" James Brown, her pride and joy.
Gail is also survived by her sister Joy McKay of Huntsville, brother Brent Malec of Orillia and brother-in-law Bob Brown (Diane) of Orillia, as well as her nieces and nephews: Nathan, Jessica, Courtney, Falon, Shawn, Shannon, and Magin. Predeceased by her parents Stanley and Sylvia Malec, and sister-in-law, Nancy Brown.
Gail’s life was filled with creativity, passion, and a love for bringing people together. She had a gift for cooking and hosting, making holidays and family gatherings truly special. Her grace, attention to detail, and warmth was felt by all. Through her plethora of photos and videos, she captured invaluable memories, leaving a treasured legacy for generations to come.
She served as navigator on beloved family boating trips to Georgian Bay, her family’s favourite place in the world. When the family vessel, Footloose, wasn’t on trip, you could find it cruising Lakes Couchiching and Simcoe, loaded with passengers, music blaring and laughter resounding.
Music was another passion Gail shared with Bill. Together they filled their home with treasured musical moments, singing and dancing with dear friends.
Gail shared a deep bond with the family’s cherished pets: Norman, Dekker, Cocoa, and Buster Brown, her closest companion who brought her endless joy.
Following the loss of her husband, Gail found new joy in golf and curling, forming lasting friendships at the Orillia Curling Club, where her creative flair made it a second home.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia, on Saturday, December 7th, from 3-5 p.m. and on Sunday, December 8th, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, 62 Peter St. N., Orillia.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ontario SPCA would be greatly appreciated in Gail’s memory. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Sunnybrook Hospital for their incredible and comprehensive care.
