Lauer: Geoffrey Richard
It is with deep sadness that we announce Geoffrey (Geof) Richard Lauer passed away peacefully March 25th, 2025 at the age of 78 at Hospice Waterloo Region with his wife and four sons by his side.
Geof was born in Orillia, Ontario, the eldest of four boys. He grew up in the Lauer family home on Peter Street North. Geof had a huge passion for hockey, whether it was playing, coaching or watching. Geof grew up playing for his hometown Orillia Bulldozers all through minor hockey. He continued to play senior hockey and Oldtimers hockey, which he played into his 70's.
Geof married the love of his life Wendy Marilyn Lauer (Keller) on June 16th, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario. His greatest joy in life was being a father to his four sons and grandpa to eleven grandchildren, teaching all of them the importance of family, hard work and respect for others.
Geof had a 39 year career with RBC spanning across most of Ontario. He started his career in Barrie, Burks Falls, Elliot Lake and Toronto. He was Bank Manager in Kingston, Huntsville and Napanee and Regional Manager for Cambridge, Thunder Bay (Northwestern Ontario) and lastly living in Waterloo covering Grey/Bruce/Wellington Area, where he retired in 2005.
In his retirement he was most happy being at the cottage with family and friends. He would spend his time puttering in the garage while listening to country music, long boat rides, handing out jobs, and watching his children and grandchildren enjoy their time there. In the cottage offseason, he was found at the rink, continuing to play hockey with the KW Oldtimers, and cheering on his grandchildren playing their favourite sports.
He was predeceased by his parents George RIchard Lauer and Beverly Francis Lauer (Bowles) of Cowansville, Quebec.
He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife Wendy of 51 years, and his 4 sons Garth (Elaine), Mark (Lindsay), Evan (Kathryn) & Paul (Maria), his 11 grandchildren, Claire, Ciaran, Connor, Charlotte, Lily, Stefano, Sadie, Clark, Marcus, Anna and Wyatt, and his 3 brothers Ralph (Therese), Tim (Rhonda) & Charlie (Patricia), and all his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be April 11th from 11am to 1pm at Mundell's Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, Ontario, followed by a service at 1 pm and a reception to follow. A private interment will follow at St. Andrew's - St. James' Cemetery in Orillia.
The Lauer family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals at the Grand River Cancer Centre and the entire team at Hospice Waterloo. A special thank you to Dr. S. Hubay & Dr. L. Tan for their exceptional care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Grand River Hospital Foundation (Cancer Care), Hospice Waterloo Region, or Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario.
