Gerald J. Hill

September 26, 1939 - March 21, 2025

Gerald J. Hill (“Gerry”), born September 26, 1939, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Leacock Care Centre at the age of 85. Loving husband of Eleanor Hill (née Dibsdall), and proud father to Mark (Diamond) Hill and Lisa (Ted) Landrum, and grandfather to Bradley (Vicky) and Erica Hill. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of Alphonse Hill and Mona (née Moore). Dear brother to Thomas (predeceased) (Mea), Noreen (Robert) (both predeceased), Joe (June), Ann (Allan “Buckey”) (predeceased), John (Gail), Bernard (predeceased) (Mary), Paul (Roseanne), Dennis (Pat), and Leonard (Cheryl).

Born and raised in Orillia, Gerry met the love of his life and best friend Eleanor in grade three. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in September 2025.

Gerry worked for CN Rail at Toronto’s Union Station for 35 years, serving in various management roles. His earliest work was with food and family. In his youth, he helped his father and brothers in the original Hill’s restaurant. In retirement, he cooked meals at the Hawk Ridge Golf Club Grill, and prepared soups and sides at Hill’s Maple Leaf Restaurant with his brothers and nephews. He was a long-time parishioner and volunteer with Guardian Angels Church.

Avid cardplayer and lover of animals, he will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for his love of family and friends, selfless hard work and generosity, joy of cooking, playful sense of humour, and contentment with life’s simple pleasures.

A mass will take place at Guardian Angels Church on Saturday, April 12 at 1:30pm, followed by a reception at the Mundell Funeral Home.

Eleanor, Mark and Lisa extend their gratitude to the staff at the Leacock Care Centre who cared for Gerry over the last 27 months, and to the caregivers at the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON)/Simcoe County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada https://alzheimer.ca/en or VON Canada https://von.ca/en .
