Geraldine "Gerry" Gertrude Methot

November 8, 1933 — January 15, 2025

Geraldine Gertrude Methot (née Murray)

Passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 15th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after 19 courageous years with Alzheimer's. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years - John Methot; her sister Marilyn Rose Jenish (née Murray); and her brother John Murray. She is survived by her loving sons Paul Methot of Toronto, Craig Methot of Markham, and her adoring grandchildren Katie and Michelle Methot of Toronto. Geraldine, affectionately known as Gerry, was born November 8th 1933, in Montreal, Quebec to the late Edward Dermot Murray and Mary Gertrude Murray (née Quinn). She spent her childhood and teenage years living on Harvard Avenue in Montreal before studying nursing in Kingston. Gerry worked as a nurse at Ontario Hospital in Kingston, Toronto General Hospital, Montreal General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario. She also took her nursing training and experience to the skies as a flight attendant for Trans Canada Air Lines.

Gerry married the love of her life, John, on October 17th, 1959. For over 61 years, they were inseparable, sharing an active life together with their family and being involved in the communities they lived in. Gerry enjoyed bowling, golfing, supper club, dancing, laughing and singing radio tunes. A member of the Catholic Women’s League for more than 50 years, Gerry also volunteered at hospitals in Mississauga. Gerry was an avid baker, a talented knitter and crocheter, interests that she shared and passed along to her granddaughters. She was a dedicated member of Guardian Angels Church in Orillia, where she sang in the choir and participated in many church activities. Her beautiful singing voice was always a welcomed sound for those lucky enough to hear it.

Above all, Gerry was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her family. A gentle, kind and gracious soul, taking a genuine interest in the lives of other people and always considering others’ needs before her own. The void left by her passing is a testament to the immeasurable impact she had on the lives of her loved ones and the people around her. She will forever be in our hearts.

Visitation with the family will take place on Thursday, January 23rd at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia, from 12:30pm until 1:45pm, followed by a funeral mass at 2:00pm at Guardian Angels Church, 115 West St., N., Orillia.

The Methot family would like to thank Sheona Kloostra and Happy at Home, the staff of Leacock Care Centre as well as the nurses and doctors at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Chalice Canada (international child sponsorship) or St Vincent de Paul Society c/o Guardian Angels Church, Orillia.
