Gladys Elizabeth (Beaver) Sime

May 1, 1928 — August 8, 2021

SIME, Gladys E. (nee: Beaver)
Passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 8, 2021 in her 94th year after a lengthy illness. Born in Preston in 1928.  Gladys married the love of her life, Donald Sime, on St. Patrick's Day 1947.  Together they raised five children, Donnie (deceased) Greg, Mark, Catherine Fitzgerald (Sean) & Jeffery (deceased) . Loving grandma of Michael Fitzgerald, Megan (deceased) and Virginia Sime. She was the daughter of Maurice and Margaret Beaver and sister of Bob Beaver (Carol), Joyce Bennett (Trevor), Eileen Bartels (Bill), Margie MacDonald (Orland, deceased), Maurice Beaver (deceased) (Pauline), Ab Beaver (Paula, both deceased) and Dorothy (deceased).  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and many family members in Beaverdale (a town named after her family).  Gladys was always hard working and dedicated to her family.  Though extremely talented and a good student, Gladys left school after grade 8 to join the workforce to help support her family.  She worked in various factories, as a teenager she worked at Knotty Pines Restaurant in Preston and manageress at Norma Kay's in Orillia.  She was very creative and took pride in her home.  A wonderful cook and baker and a gifted artist who enjoyed knitting, sewing, painting Don's birdhouses, and creating gifts for her family to treasure. She was very respectful and always answered a kindness with a thank you note written in her exquisite penmanship.  She will be dearly missed.  Special mention of son Mark for stepping in and becoming his brothers caregiver in succession with his father Donald then his mother Gladys until their deaths. Special thanks to Dr. Marc Italiano, Bayshore Nursing and the PSW's Lindsay and Holly for their care and all the work that they do.  Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Life will be forthcoming at a later date.  If desired, memorial donations to the charity of your choice may be made through the Mundell Funeral Home (705) 325-2231.
