Doreen was born in Gravenhurst on February 13, 1927, in a little house on David Street. Although she moved a number of times, she stayed pretty close to home, living in Gravenhurst, Severn Bridge, Orillia and Oro. She attended Orillia Central P.S. and ODCVI until grade 11. She then enrolled in the Registered Nursing Assistant course at Ontario Hospital School (Orillia) and was a member of the first graduating class. In her 40s, she returned to high school to complete her education and received her diploma in the same year as her oldest daughter. Doreen took 10 years “off” to have 6 children and then returned to work at the Ontario Hospital School (Gravenhurst). After 18 years she moved to Orillia and finished her career at Huronia Regional Centre. She loved her job and took great pride in it. She was a life-time member of the Rebekah Lodge (IOOF) and represented her lodge in a number of leadership roles. She was fond of dancing, needlework, crafts, puzzles and travelling. She was the queen of Canadian road-trips, often traversing the western provinces to visit with family and friends.
A private family service and burial will take place on Thursday, July 28 to be followed by a celebration of life in September.
