William John Burns

March 18, 1948 — February 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of William John Burns on February 18, 2025, just one month shy of his 77th birthday. Loving son of the late Walter and Eileen Burns. Dear brother to Mary (Brian, predecased) Menary, Anne (Ken) Wood, and Michael (Cathy; both predeceased) Burns. Proud uncle to Leanne (Jamie), Kim, Michael (Farima), Sasha (Mark), Jesse (Meredith); and great-uncle to Mackenzie, Owen, Aiden, Carlyn, Rylie, Levi, and Maeve.

Known fondly to all as John, he had a passion for learning and a wondrous personality. John often surprised everyone with a new scientific fact or was performing experiments in chemistry or electricity just to see what would happen. He was an amateur astronomer and photographer doing his own developing. John was always trying to learn how something worked, or how it was made. Also had a sense of humour like no other, often playing practical jokes on family and friends. He loved to tell a joke or riddle he had often made up.

John loved his music ranging from classic rock to country classics. Whether it was in his bedroom playing his records, or his pocket radio in the backyard and/or on the beach at the cottage-always loved listening to music.

He never complained about anything. No matter what life threw his way, John would simply say, “Everything is perfect.” Also, enjoyed his double-double coffee from Tim’s. He had many good times boating and swimming, was a gentle giant with all of nature’s creatures and they brought him much joy. John will be dearly missed by all who we’re lucky enough to have known him.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Spencer House for their gentle and devoted care of John over the years. He found many friends there and loved them all dearly.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. John will rest at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery, Toronto. To carry on John’s love for all animals, please consider making a donation to the Orillia SPCA in memory of John.

Forever in our hearts.
