Wilma Joan Hammell

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Wilma Joan Hammell (nee McKernon) at Mariposa House Hospice on Friday, January 10, 2025, in her 91st year surrounded by her loving family. Finally reunited with her beloved husband George (2004). Loving mother to Cheryl (Gene, predeceased) Hammell, Laurie Hammell, and Tom (predeceased) (Kelly) Hammell. Proud grandmother to Michael Harvey, Jennifer Harvey, and Mitchell Hammell. Dear sister to Terry Hills (Charles, both predeceased), Donna Sweeney (Patrick, both predeceased), Bill (predeceased) (Carol) McKernon, and Vivian Cardinell. Dearly missed by long time family friends Bill and Gen Munro.

Wilma was an avid curler, a member of the Orillia Bowling League, and spent many winters in Florida with husband George to enjoy golf and good weather. She also was a member of the Orillia Town and Country Club for many years.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Bayshore Health Care, Ontario Health At-Home Care, Couchching Family Health Team, and the staff at Mariposa House Hospice for their gentle and devoted care.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. Cremation to take place. Wilma will rest at St. Andrew’s-St. James’s Cemetery, 320 Coldwater Road West, Orillia, with her beloved George. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mariposa House Hospice in Wilma’s memory.
